TJR marches to sixth place finish in Wrisco Winternationals opener at East Bay

Tony Jackson Jr. followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the opening round of the Wrisco Winternationals. In a stout field of 76 cars, Tony came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, transferring him into the B-Main. Failing to place second or better, Jackson Jr. was granted a provisional into the opening night feature. After getting caught behind a tangle on the opening lap, Tony weaved through the field 24 spots in the caution-plagued 30-lapper to register a sixth-place finish. (Heath Lawson photos)

The following night for another $5,000-to-win preliminary feature, Jackson Jr. failed to transfer out of both his heat race and B-Main, forcing him to rely on a provisional into the A-Main. Starting in 28th, Tony passed 15 cars to finish 13th.

For the third round of the Wrisco Winternationals on Wednesday, Tony followed up a seventh place finish in his heat with a 10-lap consolation victory.

After Mother Nature postponed Wednesday night’s feature to late Thursday evening, Jackson Jr. was able to avoid a multiple car tangle on the third lap of the feature but was involved in an incident on the ninth lap that brought an immediate end to his evening.

For Thursday night’s full program, Jackson Jr. came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place outing, sending him into the B-Main. Needing to place second or better, Tony fell short with a fifth place finish.

On Friday afternoon, Tony edged his way into the $12,000-to-win A-Main with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. Rolling off 14th, Jackson Jr. faded two spots in the 50-lap affair to record 16th-place outing.

Bringing the 45th annual Wrisco Winternationals to a close on Saturday, Jackson Jr. pulled off early in his heat on the fifth lap, giving him one final shot at the $15,000-to-win finale with a B-Main appearance. Starting near the tail, Tony worked his way forward to finish 10th but fell short of transferring into the main event.
