Tony Jackson Jr. continues early-season slate at Vado
On Friday and Saturday, Tony Jackson Jr. and his Bilstein No. 56 Super Late Model team rolled on with the Wild West Shootout at Vado (New Mexico) Speedway Park, notching two more feature starts in the miniseries after also earning a pair on the first weekend in January.
The racing action at the event resumed on Friday due to snow canceling the originally slated mid-week program. On Friday evening, Jackson was among 39 Super Late Model racers at the 3/8-mile track seeking the night’s $10,000 first-place prize. He grabbed the fourth and final transfer spot in his heat race, then started 14th in the 30-lap feature. He pulled off after 10 laps due to a mechanical failure and finished 23rd.
On Saturday, Jackson was one of 40 Super Late Model competitors in the pit area for another $10,000-to-win show. He went to a backup car after qualifying, putting him in the rear of his heat. Finding the car had no brakes, the crew fixed the issue and Jackson once again advanced to the feature by finishing fourth in his B-Main. Jackson started 23rd in the 40-lapper and soon picked up several spots. However, he pulled in just past the halfway mark with his engine running hot and was scored with a 24th-place result.
Due to the work required to swap engines for one race, Jackson elected to forego the $25,000-to-win Wild West Shootout finale on Sunday.
