Tony Jackson Jr. takes on Spring Nationals
A trip to the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks” was on the schedule for Tony Jackson Jr. over the weekend for a pair of Super Late Model shows. While Jackson qualified for both feature events during the 12th annual Spring Nationals at Wheatland, Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway, each came to a disappointing end.
With 43 Super Late Models at the 3/8-mile oval on Friday, Jackson drove his No. 56 Schlup Enterprises machine to third in his heat race and started ninth in the night’s 40-lap, $7,000 to-win feature. He suffered a DNF and was scored with a 23rd-place result.
On Saturday, Jackson raced among 40 Super Late Model drivers looking to capture the evening's $20,000 first-place check. Jackson won his heat, putting him fourth on the grid to begin the 60-lap main event. He maintained a top-five position early, but ran into trouble just before halfway and failed to finish for the second night in a row. He was scored 20th in the final rundown.
