Best finish of 5th for Jackson Jr. in MARS Easter weekend swing
In the three days leading up to this year’s Easter holiday, Tony Jackson Jr. traveled to Iowa for a trio of Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship events. He picked up two top-10 finishes along the way.
A trip to Tipton, Iowa’s Cedar County Raceway for the Hawkeye Land 40 was up first on the three-day slate. A total of 43 MARS Late Models were in the pit area at the quarter-mile track on Thursday for the series’ inaugural visit to the facility. Jackson raced his Allgaier Performance No. 56 Super Late Model to a sixth-place finish in his heat race and fourth in his B-Main. He started the $5,000-to-win feature from the 21st position and came home 14th in the 40-lapper.
For next two nights, Jackson and nearly 40 other MARS Late Model drivers competed in the Slocum 50 Weekend at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.
On Friday, Jackson took sixth in his heat on the 3/8-mile oval and 11th in his consolation race after a DNF. He ultimately started the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win Prelude to the Slocum 50 from the 21st position and charged forward to finish 10th. He earned the night’s MD3 Hard Charger Award for his efforts.
Jackson turned in his best performance of the weekend in the 50-lap, $10,555-to-win finale at 34 Raceway on Saturday. After nabbing second in his heat race, he began the Slocum 50 from the fourth row. He climbed three positions and finished fifth in the main event, taking the checkered flag behind Bobby Pierce, Carson Ferguson, Dennis Erb Jr. and Gordy Gundaker.
Jackson now occupies the fifth spot in the MARS Late Model Championship standings.
