Tony Jackson Jr. is victorious at Quincy Raceways
A three-day slate of MARS Late Model Championship competition ended with Tony Jackson Jr. in victory lane at Quincy (Illinois) Raceways on Sunday evening.
Competing in a 19-car field as part of the Gem City Showdown, Jackson opened his night at the quarter-mile track with a second-place qualifying effort. He won his heat race from the pole in his No. 56 Super Late Model and started second in the 30-lap feature. He wired the field and claimed the $5,000 winner’s share with a 1.272-second margin of victory over Jason Feger. Ryan Unzicker, Jeff Herzog and Michael Leach completed the top five.
Jackson’s feature triumph was his third of the season overall and capped a weekend in which he scored three top-10 finishes.
On Friday and Saturday, he was part of 32-car fields at the quarter-mile Davenport (Iowa) Speedway in the Corn State Nationals.
Friday saw Jackson take third in his heat, then go on to start ninth and finish sixth in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main. The following night, he grabbed the checkered flag in his heat race and rolled off fourth in the $10,000-to-win main event. He came home sixth in the 40-lapper.
After the Iowa and Illinois shows, Jackson has moved into third in the MARS Late Model Championship standings.
