Pair of top-5 MARS finishes for Jackson Jr. at Quincy and Peoria

Tony Jackson Jr. turned in a pair of strong results in two Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship shows in Illinois over the weekend and assumed the series points lead in the process.

On Friday, Jackson competed for a $5,000 first-place prize as part of a 25-car MARS Late Model field at Quincy Raceways in the Land of Lincoln. He qualified fourth on the quarter-mile oval in his Allgaier Performance No. 56 Super Late Model and was second in his heat race. He began the 40-lap feature from the seventh position and came home fourth behind Jason Feger, Ryan Unzicker and Justin Reed. Austin Howes rounded out the top five.

Another $5,000 was on the line at the quarter-mile Highland (Illinois) Speedway on Saturday. Jackson, who was among 36 MARS Late Model competitors in the pit area, qualified with the fifth-quickest time in his group. He again was second in his heat, putting him fifth to begin the 40-lap main event. He led two laps in the race and ultimately finished as runner-up, just 0.527 seconds behind winner Shannon Babb. Unzicker took third, while Daryn Klein was fourth and Jordan Bauer finished fifth.

Jackson’s current points lead in the MARS Late Model Championship is just two markers over Feger.
